You will have heard tell of it, of course...
you may even have seen some photos of it. Well nothing, but nothing
you have seen or heard can quite prepare you, the first time you see
Norman Foster's Millau viaduct for yourself. That is, of course, if
you get there on a clear day. Choose a cloudy one and you will not
see a thing, for it will be above the clouds. We kid you not.
The whole point of it is to by-pass the town of Millau, for those
thousands of Parisians and Northern French who leave en masse for
the Med every August. They say the viaduct saves 2 hrs on the journey.
Pity, though. Because (without its traffic) Millau is a bustling
doing sort of town, long famous for its fine leather gloves
and worth a leg-stretch and a cool drink.
