As with most of France, the major roads run North South through Correze, with the new sections of the A20 Motorway now bringing Paris within 5hrs drive of Brive (Junction 53) and Toulouse just 1.5 hours.Mind you, this is North/South orientation is about to change quite dramatically, once the new A89 East West motorway linking Bordeaux and Clermont Ferrand is completed. The point being, that it intersects with The A20 at Brive. It does not take long, once off the major road through the centre of the départment (the N89 Brive to Tulle to Ussell route) to lose yourself in the quiet traffic free country roads, where you can go 20 minutes without seeing another car. Most British expats in the region use the Limoges-Stansted (Ryanair) route to get to the Correze. With the opening up of the new A89 motorway, the Clermont Ferrand-Stansted link will also be a good bet to access the East of the Millevaches and east Correze. Failing that, Bergerac (Dordogne) in the West, will be well within easy reach (as well as Bordeaux, of course) when this long awaited road is finally finished. Talking of waiting, like their northern Lot neighbours, most Brits in the south Correze await the opening of the new airport at Cressansac, close to the A20 motorway at Souillac, alas, still some 2 years (or so!) away. Rolling countryside, high plateaux, deep river gorges, mediaeval towns, Richard the Lionheart and fortifications galore, coupled with welcoming locals, the fabulous food and wine and stone houses to drool over, will all come together to make your visit to Correze one of those ".... why have we never been here before", kind of places!
Bon vacances
