Once you see the dark red stone of its many mansions
and cottages - not to mention the fortified 12th Century church
- you will understand why 'La Rouge' is tacked onto Collonge!
Long since a car-free zone in summer (except for residents
- so watch out), as you amble around this beautiful old place -
rightly classified as a plus
beaux village - you marvel how the place survived so intact
after all the wars, not to mention revolution, that could have wiped
it out. Mind you, just about every building is fortified, including
the church.
Check out the stone roof of the Maison de La Sirène
with it's figure of a Siren playing a lute. OK, so it looks like
a mermaid, but it's a Siren.
