Monpazier was built in 1284 by Edward 1 and what a good job he
made of it too.
The central market square, with its arcaded houses around it, is
A-typical of these bastides. Charming, beautiful, magnificent,
delightful, stunning! Any or all of these describe this mediaeval
masterpiece.
A 13c Inn, fortified church, covered market square, half timbered
buildings, narrow streets... all vie for your attention as you wander
around pondering upon the past wars and tragedies that go to make
up the history of this now peaceful place, witnessed by these very
same buildings. Peaceful? Not in high season, for it is much visited.
Do not miss it, regardless.
