La Roque Gageac is built so precariously into the cliff face above
the Dordogne river, that you marvel how come it doesn't just fall
down. Well it has happened, but, thankfully, such catastrophe
is rare, now that most of this Plus
Beaux Village de France, has been restored.
The last time any significant part of it fell down was back in
1956, but, given their own way, the English soldiers who fought
for it during the 100 years War would happily have flattened it,had
they been able to capture it... which they never did.
Check out he magnificent 15C Chateau Marlatie as you approach La
Roque Gageac from the West. Also the imposing Manoir de Tarde with
its turret and its pepper pot roof.
Need a drink or a good meal?... you will be spoilt for choice in
La Roque Gageac.
