On the edge of the Causse de Gramat area of the Quercy Regional
park, Alvignac is a spa town of 19th century fame.
The thermal springs in the valley between Alvignac and Miers
contain sulphates, sodium and magnesium, apparently much prized
for its effects on the bowel.
Some fine period buildings... maisons very much of the bourgeoisie
still survive amongst the ancient honey coloured stone of the more
traditional Quercy farm and village houses.
The three bar/restaurants, a baker, pharmacy and grocery have now
been joined by a casino!
For the artistic there is a glassblower that welcomes watchers
as too does the potter. In fact you can actually enrol on a pottery
course here in Alvignac during your stay in the Lot.
