Try, if you can, to arrive in Autoire for the first time from the
south (D38). As you round the last bend before this 'Plus
Beaux Villages de France' you will be rewarded by a pretty
amazing view - suddenly!
Stop just before the bend and you can park your car and proceed
on foot to the 45m waterfall.
The village itself, is full of character as you might expect, seeing
as it is one of the most beautiful villages in France.
It also boasts a fine old manor house (Limargue Chateau),
a Romanesque church (check out the Chancel's sculpture) and a "Chateaux
des Anglais", a fortified remnant of the 100 years war...
a reminder that this part of France was very much a corner of a
foreign land that was, in fact, but not forever, England!
Make time to stop at the Auberge de la Fontaine for a glass
or two or a meal.
