Bretenoux is a 13thC. bastide
town on the river Cère, a tributary of the Dordogne.
The charming mediaeval square - Place des Consuls - is arcaded
. The 16thC. church draws visitors to it's stone Pietá. The
nearby Castelnau, is a fine
example of military building in the middle ages.
Bretenoux is a thriving 'market' town and most commerce is here,
including a big LeClerc supermarket.
The small bridge over the weir is much painted... not in the Forth
Bridge sense, but by aspiring Brit watercolourists who flock to
this part of the Lot on art activity breaks.
