Being so close to Figeac, it would be
easy to miss Capdenac-le-Haut (to give it its full name), which
would be a shame. Perched on a high cliff, Capdenac looks down on
its industrial riverside namesake, the port of Capdenac.
Complete with gated ramparts (the view from which is..., well,
panoramic!) and a ruined castle, leave one in no doubt as to the
village's reason to be.
Look out for the Consular house and Sully's House and Caesar's
Well. A major Potestant bastion during the wars of religion...
check out the history museum housed in the 13th/14thC square keep,
the Tour de Modon.
Capdenac, until recently, was a contender for Uxellodonum, the
last bastion of Gallic resistance to the might of Rome. Vayrac,
seems to have pipped Capdenac to the post!
