A mediaeval feast for the eyes, Cardaillac deserves its label as
one of the most beautiful villages in France - Les
Plus Beaux Villages de France.
A reminder of the Lot's turbulent past, Cardaillac is a fortified
town with ramparts and a three-towered fort raised up on a plateau.
A French loyalist town during the 100 years war it was captured
and occupied by the English on several occasions. Check out the
two 12thC towers... the Clock (Barons) Tower and the Sagnes Tower.
Some towns have a museum.. Cardaillac is a museum...
Take the guided tour that takes in the chestnut-drying oven, the
prune oven, the walnut oil press and the clog maker's workshop.
See barrel's made and visit the (rather daunting) early 20thC. classroom
