Creysse is a charming backwater beside the Dordogne river.
In days of yore it used to boast a ferryman, which would probably
have saved a few hours on the donkey journey from Martel
to Meyronne on the other bank of the
river from Creysse.
Creysse has a 12thC. church, of course, with an interesting belfry
and there is a 15thC castle and keep perched on the limestone cliff
overlooking the village and the river Dordogne.
Many of the ancient houses have been lovingly and tastefully restored
and in the late afternoon sun Creysse positively glows a wonderful
golden sand colour. At least, so it seems from the terrace bar of
the Logis hotel, snuggled by the little mill stream bridge! Tarry
for a glass or two yourself.
Shame about the ancient mill house though... it remains resolutely
rendered by its present owner.
