Gramat

An ancient backstreet of Gramat, Lot, South West France

One of the "county towns" of the Lot, Gramat lends its name to the dry and arid Causse de Gramat area of the département.

From winding mediaeval back-streets to bougoise squares, Gramat is a town of tous commerce, perched above the valley of the Alzou, with its ruined watermills, including the Saut mill with its waterfall.

Check out the huge tumulus on the race track... witness to the continuous occupation of man hereabouts, for thousands of years.

Nice covered market square. The nearby Parc Animalier (See the link on the left). is well worth the visit if you have kids.
