It stayed in the Cardaillac family from the 12thC right up to the
18thC, a pretty amazing feat when you consider all the wars, revolutions
and political intrigues (not to mention strategic marriages) that
happened in the intervening 700 years or so!
'Modernised' in the 16thC, remnants of the town's fortifications
can still be seen, including the Arbol Gate and its round tower.

Dominated by its majestic chateau with its 'pepperpot' towers,
Lacapelle-Marival, in more recent times, suffered badly at the hands
of the SS in 1944.
