Marcilhac-sur-Célé is on one of the pilgrim routes
to the cathedral of St. Jacques at Compostela in Spain.
Situated in the Parc Naturel Régional des Causses du
Quercy, this is an area of outstanding natural beauty, rich
in history and architecture.
With the river Célé running through Marcilhac on
its way to Cahors from Figeac,
the village affords an insight into village life in mediaeval times.
The abbey, parts of which are 11thC. is well worth a look, especially
the choir.
Flanked by impressive cliffs carved out of the limestone by the
river, you are spoilt for choice regarding viewpoints. Naturally,
there are caves to be found... (one actually called Bellevue) and
ancient burial grounds too.
