The thing about Miers is, that as you tour around, you tend to
end up there again and again! Every road in the area seems to meet
by the Golden Lion pub! Much to the delight of monsieur le patron
and his charming wife. Now would she be madame la patronne,
or would she remain madame le patron? Might have to
sort that out over a few beers next time we (accidentally) end up
there...
Apart from the pub and a lively summer festival, Miers is a sleepy
golden stone village. A baker and a grocery store completes the
commerce here.
Between Miers and its bigger spa partner, Alvignac,
is the Source Thermale which is worth a visit, if only to
sit on the balcony of the lakeside restaurant with a glass and muse
away an hour trying to imagine the comings and goings when taking
the waters here during La Belle Epoque was quite the thing
to do.
Just outsied Miers and still under excavation, is the archaeological
site Les Fieux. Already one painted section has been listed as an
Historic Monument.
