Deep in the heart of the Célé river valley a visit
to Cabrerets, brings you to the world
famous caves - "Les Grottes du Pech Merle" 'discovered' by two kids
in 1922 some 20 millenia after the last occupants turned out the
lights!
Pech Merle is about as good as it gets in terms of Palaeolithic
art in France.
Spread out over 7 underground galleries is a feast of 20,000 year
old paintings and engravings of human footprints, outlines and hands,
together with horses, bisons, and mammoths. The tour takes about
1.5hrs
For further information about the cave and its paintings and opening
times etc., you can visit the official
website or you can e-mail them at info@pechemerle.com.
