Rocamadour is unique. It is the second most visited place in the
whole of France. It has been there for a very long time.
A major stopover for mediaeval pilgrims on the way to Santiago
de Compestela... even now, their modern-day counterparts climb the
stone steps (all 140 of them) on their knees as a penance.
The miracle Bell; the Black Madonna; numerous sites classed as
Historical Monuments... the scene of much mayhem and slaughter when
the English based at Martel sacked the
town during the 100 Years War... Rocamadour should be on everyone's
must-see-list.
To do justice to Rocamadour, would need not just a page here, but
a dedicated website. Fortunately,
there is one*.
