Many towns in the Lot have officially designated
Historic Monuments. Well the whole of St. Cirque Le Popie is
officially designated as an Historic Monument!
As it is also classed as one of the most
beautiful villages in France you will begin to understand that
to visit this area of the Lot and NOT go to St. Cirq Le Popie is
a bit of a no-no!
In fact, with so much written about the place and with postcards
of it in virtually every shop in Lot, you will be forgiven for feeling
as though you had been there before, as you walk through its exquisitely
preserved mediaeval alleyways.
The disappeared (Simon de Montfort again?) castle is the place
to head for, (we suggest before you succumb to the enticements
of this wonderful village's hosteleries!) in order to take in the
magnificent view down to the River Lot and a valley straight out
of the picture-books.
