Strategically situated on the River Dordogne it is of little surprise
that Souillac came to be.
In continuous occupation since prehistoric times, Souillac was
put firmly on the 'modern' map, by the founding of the Priory in
909AD.
"Ravished" by the English during the 100 Years War and
then again by the Protestants in 1573, Souillac, situated at the
meeting of 3 départements - The Lot(46), The Dordogne(24)
and Correze(19)
- is again at the mercy of the English. This time delivered neatly
by exit 55 of the A20 superhighway in less than seven hours from
the channel ports, ready to buy their little piece of La Belle
Vie en France... and who can blame them! Certainly not the seven
estate agents
in Souillac not to mention four banks!
Watched over by its ruined 15thC tower, the Place des Toiles de
Beneton does not have a shop of the same name - thank goodness!...
yet?

3 cupolas and Rennaissance art.
