Visit the frescos in Tauriac's Romanesque church by all means,
but the real reason for including this charming little settlement
nudging the River Dordogne near Carennac,
is a nice bit of problem solving... the French way.
Having captured a swathe of the Dordogne for a swimming lagoon,
to help pay for the upkeep a car park charge was proposed. Now,
in England, you would be lured there and charged £7.50 just
for the privilige of entering and spending your money at the café
(no bar, of course - not in England... the Police would veto a licence).
Well in Tauriac, the owner of the restaurant/BAR, quite rightly
complained that his customers would not come if they had to pay
to get in. No problem, in this car park, it was decided you'd pay
to get out!... but here's the thing...
Tarry after swimming at said bar/restaurant, for a meal and a few
glasses, and leave for free! They leave the Way-In barrier
open, so you can slip out without paying! No problem. Very French.
Very good.
