The gite in the medieval town of St. Céré, in the Dordogne valley area of the Lot, is a 4-storey town house beside the River Bave which runs through the town. This is more than holiday gite accommodation... it is an excellent long term rental proposition. Since the English owners completely renovated the house nearly four years ago, it has been in constant occupation by Brits either hunting for their own French property, or renovating, houses in the area.
The gite owners are very flexible and very well disposed to the requirements of their fellow countrymen, as they battle with the French property legal system, overstretched artisans and the move from the UK to a foreign land! The house is available unfurnished, partially furnished or fully furnished according to your needs and there is ample storage room on the ground floor if you want to move some of your stuff down from the UK rather than store it at exorbitant prices. And what better way to start the transition from a Brit that visits France to a Brit putting down roots of a more permanent nature. St. Céré is one of those rare French provincial towns that is growing, rather than declining. It doesn't close in the winter, has bars, restaurants, butchers, bakers, a wet fish shop... not to mention 4 estate agents, 4 banks, 3 pharmacies and numerous individual and idiosyncratic shops that sell everything from computer equipment to lingerie. The gite is (oil fired) centrally heated throughout . Sleeping accommodation is in 3 double bedrooms, including the converted 4th floor attic (presently used as an internet office). There is one family bathroom on the second floor equipped with full size bath, overhead shower, toilet and washbasin. There is a separate toilet with washbasin on the ground floor. The kitchen takes up a corner of the living room and, whilst small, is well equipped... there is even room and plumbing for your dishwasher if it survives the journey from the UK! No garden, but a good roof-terrace for 'al fresco' dining leads off the living room. With views all round (you can lie in bed and gaze up at the castle of St. Laurent Les Tours, from the master bedroom), the house benefits from being a corner house... no medieval shake-hands-with-your-neighbour-across-the-alley-whilst-still-in-bed here! The gite in St Céré is a great self catering holiday base, well situated and very close to many of the Lot's attractions and places of interest, including the River Dordogne, Carennac, Loubressac and Autoire, three of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France. The magnificent Castelnau is nearby and the Chateau Montal and its golf course, just minutes away. It is an ideal not just for a holiday, but for house hunting in the Dordogne river valley area, the North Lot and South Correze, where houses and renovation projects are much lower than in the Lot's neighbour, the Dordogne. Tennis courts and the open air swimming pool are just a few minutes walk along the canal and across the Place de La République. There is also great swimming nearby at Tauriac, Parc Aquatique Padirac, Parc Aquatique de Saule and Lac du Tolerme. The gite is available for long term and out of season rental, at negotiable
rates.
