Situated in the heart of the famous Cahors wine region in the ancient province of The Lot, the Bread Oven is part of our charming XVII Century Quercy Farmhouse group of gites, which overlook the valley in a beautiful setting. In France during the 16th and 17th centuries, if the baker was not within shouting distance, it was usual to have an oven for baking bread at home. The alternative was to walk or ride to the nearest village or go without, unthinkable!

Whilst often the bread oven was attached to or in the main farmhouse, many farms in The Lot had a separate building, as we have, which served a dual purpose. The sheep would also sleep in the adjoining bergerie.

Our Bergerie/Bread Oven is now a carefully restored holiday rental cottage. It has a fitted oak kitchen/dining room where the original bread oven is now a charming feature. There are tiled work surfaces, split level oven and hob, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dining table and chairs.

There is a large updated shower room with marble topped vanity unit, w.c., wash-hand basin and shaver point.

There is a sitting area with a sofa for comfortable reading.

A double bed on a mezzanine floor, which is above the original bread oven.

Outside the back door there is a private and secluded terrace/patio with garden furniture, parasol and barbecue.
