This one bedroom gite is part of a newly refurbished 19th century Maison de Maitre in the small hamlet of Pomie nestled in the Lot, close to the Dordogne river and surrounded by steep and wooded hillsides with open countryside. The gite is very near to Souillac, St. Sozy and Martel. The River Dordogne is just 20 minutes away. Junction 55 of the major North-South motorway, the A20 is just 10 minutes from the gite.

The house is set in two acres with a private pool and features artist/sculpture studios available to guests, in the converted barn. These are available for rent separately.

The medieval town of Martel is just 4 miles and has markets twice weekly selling all local produce such as foie gras, duck and walnuts and a wealth of local cheeses... in the autumn, most famously, truffles.

The immediate area is rich in beautiful villages stretched out along the Dordogne river valley. Three of Les Plus Beaux Village de France are within easy reach... Carennac, Loubressac and Autoire. So too are magnificent chateaux... Castlenau, Belcastle, Fenelon, Marqueyssac. The caves of Gouffre de Padirac and La Cave are within 20 minutes drive, showing fine examples of prehistoric caves and rock art. There are other lesser known prehistoric dolmens and other caves within half an hours drive. And of course the River Dordogne with swimming and canoeing are all close at hand. Rocamadour, one of the most popular sites in France, is only 30 minutes drive.

The town of Souillac has an annual Jazz Festival in the month of July . Within easy day trip are the major Dordogne site seeing attractions, such as Sarlat la Caneda, Domme, Le Roque Gageac and Beynac.

The Gite. The gite has one double bed room with a bathroom with bath/shower basin and wc. The living area has seating for four, with kitchen cupboards fridge and electric hob and kettle. Washing machine and dryer are in the adjoining room. Books and two comfortable seats for relaxation. For the winter, underfloor heating and in the summer, it remains wonderfully cool being north facing. Outside is your own private parking area and barbeque, with access to the house pool and garden. Talking of barbeques, we'll let you have your first bag of charcoal on the house!

Just 10 minutes from the A20 motorway at junction 55. The nearest airports are Bergerac, Rodez, Toulouse and Limoges with their low cost Ryanair, British European and easyJet flights - all are within approx 2hrs drive.

Pomie gite near Souillac is available for long term rental at a reduced tariff, being an ideal base, either for house-hunting or to study the prehistoric cave paintings in the area.
