Gite Holiday France - Buying property in France?

Thinking of buying a property in France? Then you are going down a well trodden path... many thousands of Brits already enjoy their own little piece of La Vie en France.

Some buy property in France with outbuildings to convert to a gite or two, so they can achieve an income whilst living in France permanently. Others buy a smaller property, intending to rent it out as a self catering gite in the high earning months only, using their French property as a maison secondaire at other times, for a holiday home for themselves, family and friends. Whatever your reason for buying a property in France, there is no better way of experiencing what 'real' (out of season) France is like, than renting a self catering gite on a longer term basis - not just for a holiday.

You will experience life in France first hand and for real. The Brit gite owners on this website have already done what you are setting out to do, so you can begin to network the local expatriate community who will, normally, be only too pleased to pass on what they have learnt. As importantly, you will be able to better judge where you want to buy. Not just in which département, but whether you really do want a peaceful rustic idyll... can you, in fact, cope with being 20K from your nearest 3 BB's (butcher, baker... bar!). It could just be that a village/town life would suit you better right now. Or something in between.

Whatever your preference, if you decide to rent a gite for a long stay, contact the gite owners listed in this website and be prepared to negotiate a good long term rate. Bearing in mind, of course, that it could be difficult, if not impossible, to achieve cheaper rates during July and August.
