Finding a property to rent in France for longer than a couple of weeks self catering summer holiday can be difficult. If you are looking for somewhere to rent out of season, as a base from which to do some serious house hunting, or just to see whether you really do like living in France, you will need to tackle the problem of a long term rental. You can go the official French route, if you are brave and you can click this link for further information on the legalities you will need to go through when renting through the French legal system. Or you can go the route that many savvy Brits take and negotiate with a holiday gite owner for a long term winter, spring or autumn rental. Indeed, most of the French rental propeties listed on this website are available for winter lets. If you are embarking upon a new build, or a major renovation project, then it may even be possible to negotiate a long term rental for a year or more, including the summer high earning months. Most switched-on gite owners will know their average yields and they should be able to arrive at a mutually acceptable monthly rental amount. How much does it cost to rent a house in France on a long term basis? That you will have to negotiate with the gite owner as prices should be a lot less than those published. Certainly, it should turn out to be a lot cheaper to rent somewhere in France, compared to an equivalent UK property!
